Switchboard Thermal Imaging FAQs
-
How do I avoid dodgy electricians performing switchboard thermal imaging?
Switchboard thermal imaging is a specialised service that requires a registered electrical contractor licence (REC) and additional certification (AS ISO 18436.7:2014). Not every electrician is qualified to perform this service. Always verify that your contractor holds current certification and appropriate insurance.
Unlicensed contractors:
- Have no insurance
- Are underqualified
- Won’t provide accurate data
- Provide poor interpretation of results
- Risk electrical faults going undetected
- Will sign off as safe when it’s not
-
How long does switchboard thermal imaging take?
Commercial switchboard thermal imaging takes 15 minutes to an hour per switchboard. Wineries and distilleries with multiple switchboards across production areas, barrel rooms and cellar door facilities may require a longer visit — we’ll confirm the expected duration when we schedule your appointment.
-
How do I prepare for switchboard thermal imaging?
The area around each switchboard should be clear and accessible, with the switchboard case unlocked or opened. The power must remain on during the service, as thermal imaging is performed during normal operating conditions to detect faults under typical electrical load.
-
Will the service disrupt our operations?
No. Thermal imaging is non-invasive and does not require power interruption. We work around your production schedule and cellar door hours to minimise any inconvenience.
